During these past few weeks in North Africa we have heard many moving accounts of how God is working among people from Islamic backgrounds. I thought I’d briefly share with you a story I heard today that reveals some of the the challenges faced by new converts and the Church in this region.

Abdu (name changed) came to Christ late in life. After being befriended by a believer who was a colleague, Abdu grew curious about Isa (Jesus) and the Christian faith. His friend invited him to attend “informational” classes that were held in a neutral place by an “association”. (It is illegal for Churches to attempt to convert Muslims). After hearing more and having many of his questions answered, Abdu gave his life over to Jesus and was baptized.

Abdu’s wife and grown children were not happy with his decision. His wife held a position of social prominence through her profession, and Abdu’s conversion was a tremendous blow that threatened their status and security. Eventually, Abdu was completely rejected by his wife and children, who will no longer see him or allow him to see his grandchildren.

Now in his 60s and retired, Abdu lives alone and is very isolated. It has been difficult for him to find a church that will accept him, as many Christians are afraid that he may be an extremist “spy” or fearful of the consequences to their church and their families if they are seen accepting Muslim converts into their fellowship.

Fortunately, a friend has connected Abdu to a local pastor who is working hard at preparing his congregation for reaching out to Muslims. Though they are not yet ready for him to join them, this Pastor is meeting with Abdu regularly and discipling him.

Please pray for Abdu, and for other Muslim background believers in this region, who come to Christ at great cost, often losing family and livelihood, and who struggle to be received into their new family.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray for Carolyn as she teaches “Christ The Healer” in 2 more Bible Schools;
  • Pray for the students to be encouraged and strengthened in their faith;
  • Pray for Tim’s upcoming business meetings, that the right partnerships will be developed and accounts established;
  • Many wide doors of opportunity for ministry partnerships have been opened. Please pray for ongoing guidance from the Holy Spirit as to what are the next steps to take for equipping soul winners, church planters and missionaries from indigenous church groups.
  • Pray that our support base, both financial, relational and administrative, continues to increase so that more workers can be thrust into His harvest.

Help Reach North Africa.

The time is now. The Arab Spring helped open a door into the hearts of a generation of young people, many of whom are disenchanted with religion as they know it.
Through God-given partnerships we have the opportunity to help disciple church planters and missionaries from multiple North African church networks.

  • We are currently working on accommodation solutions for live-in training sessions.
  • We can assist in developing workers who will travel to existing groups of believers in village areas who lack pastors.
  • We can help form new church planting teams from local churches that will work in multiple nations.
